Morada Das Palmas
Built in 1812, Morada das Palmas first served as the inaugural schoolhouse for the parish of San Adrián de Veiga in Ortigueira. It later transformed into a summer haven for well-to-do families. Fast forward to the 1940s, and it became the family estate of the Bellóns, prominent local entrepreneurs, who maintained it until March 2023. That's when this grand old dame entered a new chapter in her storied life.
Morada das Palmas is a quintessential Galician country house, built from stone and laid out in a rectangular shape. Its main facade faces south, welcoming ample sunlight through its tall wooden windows. The rooms are bright and airy, and if you peek out of the northwest-facing windows, you're treated to cinematic sunrises over the Ría de Ortigueira
Ortegal
Morada das Palmas is located in the Ortegal region, in the north of the province of A Coruña, Galicia (northwest Spain). Ortegal is arguably the wildest area in northern Spain, a region where nature truly shows off its full splendor.
The house is strategically positioned between two key geographical landmarks: Cabo Ortegal, where the waters of the Atlantic Ocean and the Cantabrian Sea merge, and Estaca de Bares, the northernmost point of the Iberian Peninsula.
The house stands at the foot of the Sierra de A Capelada, boasting the highest cliffs in continental Europe. Here, you'll find wild horses and wolves, magical sanctuaries, black-sand beaches, and ancient pre-Roman ruins.
Ortegal is known for its picturesque coastal villages like Cariño, Espasante, O Barqueiro, and the port of Bares, an ancient Phoenician town with immense beauty and historical relevance. The local gastronomy is dominated by the finest fish and seafood in Europe, excellent wine, and top-quality meat. The culinary experience is simple: from sea to plate and from land to table.
The estuaries of Ortigueira and O Barqueiro are natural paradises and a haven for migratory birds. The rivers Sor, with its canyons and turquoise waters, and Mera, with its bridges and waterfalls, flow into them.
If you're an adrenaline junkie, get ready for an outdoor sports paradise: Surfing, windsurfing, diving, kitesurfing, canoeing, horseback riding, spearfishing, cycling, climbing, and trail running... all just around the corner.
If you're more into long beach strolls and endless days of sand and sea, there's no coast like Ortegal's in all of Spain, and yes, we say this with total confidence.
